Tampa Bay Line Dance Classic

November 14-16, 2008

The crew and I traveled down to Tampa, Florida on Nov. 13th to have a look at this event.

I have to say we had a wonderful time. Arline Winerman put on a great event and was on hand at every moment.

It started off with an open dance on Thursday evening. The workshops on Friday and Saturday started at 9:00am and ended at 5pm. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights there were demos for the dances that would be taught for the following day. There were three open dance rooms nightly and review rooms for both intermediate and beginners dances. The show on Saturday was short and sweet. The ladies from Florida performed as well as the staff and Arline. On Sunday the workshops started again at 9:ooam and ended at 3:oopm with open dancing until 4:50pm.

The hotel was going through some renovations, but they did their best to accommodate those who were having trouble with the noise. My group included!

Arline provided the dancers with a breakfast and lunch bar during the day, and you could also eat in the hotel’s café. For dinner, we went over to the nearest mall which had some great restaurants to pick from. The event offered a dinner/show combo ticket, but we opted for eating on our own and seeing the show separately.

Here’s a list of the dances that were taught:

What’s the Deal?, Love’s on the Inside, Killa, Soldier Boy Stroll, Shama Lama Ding Dong, Jump on This, Shake Your Groove Thing, See Ya Later Alligator, Hot Spot, Tango Cha, Superbitch, Do You Love Me? There were also Pro Am competitons which were very entertaining to watch. All of the competitors did a great job.

I would recommend this event to everyone. The attendees were friendly and so were the instructors. The atmosphere was not stressful due to the fact that the each hour would be only four workshops and sometimes two at a time. There was plenty of R&R time for the pool area and just to sit and chat. Arline was available everywhere if you had a problem or just wanted to say hi. The vendors were great and had a wide selection of jewely, shirts, bags, etc.

The photo gallery has pictures of our weekend. Take a look.
